I found Thomas on the US Indian Census Schedules 1885-1840
His wifeis listed as Jane O. Hoffman, and they adopted at least 2 daughters:
Lucy S. Hoffman Age 14 on the 1894 yankton Ind. Census
Alice Howard age 6 on the same census.
You might want to contact the First Natins Outreach Center in So. Sioux city,NE at 402-494-1394. they have the yankton Censuses from 1885-at least 1911.

their adopted daughter Lucy S. was Lucy Stinger. i could not find anything using Jane O. Stinger(thinking she may have been married before to " stinger) but got nowhere.

"Itetaninwin," which means "Showsfacewoman." On the Yankton Census, Lucy Hoffman went by this name also. Does anyone have any info? I do have an "Itetaninwin" in my family tree, but she married "Eknainyanke." Also the "Itetaninwin" in my family tree died, April 31, 1889.

native Eyes, I have an Esther Itetaninwin baptized Feb. 3, 1878 in the Yankton presbyterian Church at the Yankton Agency. Ref. Personal Memorandum of J.P. Williamson Mssionary to the Sioux . Alfred N.Coe. 1927. Greenwood south Dakota.
that is al i have on this surname.
You need to check out the Yankton Censuses on Oyate, or you can call 712-4941394 in So. Sioux city and ask them to see what they hve in their Yankton Censuses. make arrangements to obtain copies of what they arebableto find for yu.

Thank you for the information on Esther Showsfacewoman, I did find that info on this board, vital statistics. "Itetaninwin" meant "Showsfacewoman" in the vital statistics info that someone put on this board. Thanks for the tip Herman1.
